Gene Philips sent the following information about the 268R1.
Also the Blue Book listing for R1 is incorrect. This was not a lodge offering. It is the 1965 summer camp patch for Camp Saratoga.
The Council chose to honor the OA anniversary by adding the 3 W’s. I have heard some say that the actual summer camp patch is the same design without the 3 W”s. That is incorrect. There never was such an issue ( perhaps a thread break could have produced one however I have never seen one and neither have the other two active major collectors in this Area). That was a couple of years after I served on the staff at Camp Saratoga and a few years before I reregistered. However I have seen collections from people who attended Camp that year and they all have the 3 W’s whether they were OA members or not.
Now there is an argument that while the lodge executive board did not directly approve the patch, it was approved by the Council Executive or his designee and therefore was approved by the Supreme Chief of the Fire. As such that would make it a lodge issue.
What do you think?
