I commented in a post on a neckerchief slide from Thay-En-Da-Ne-Gea Lodge #418, that I had heard anecdotally that the neckerchief which had been designated the N1 by the Blue Book was actually the Section 2-D Conclave neckerchief from that year. You can see a picture of the neckerchief below.
Gavin Murdoch has done some research, and sent the following information.
Last evening I spoke with Brian CXXXXX, who was the418 Lodge Chief during the mid 60’s. He designed N2, the white one with yellow piping. He also designed the round Neckerchief slide with the wolf head that goes with it which you have previously pictured. Prior to then 418 did not have a lodge neckerchief.
Lodge members simply wore neckerchiefs from the conclaves. With the other 2D lodges sporting their own neckerchiefs he figured that it was time for 418 to
get on board. His art work was superb. He also mentioned that the 418 S1 cut edge was referred to as the “pile of rocks” since the gray sitting wolf pictured looked more like a pile of rocks than a sitting howling wolf. He said that the neckerchief previously identified as N1 was not issued from the lodge but was given out at the 1956 conclave. He also confirmed that the copper slide was from the 1956 conclave. Brian is still active though it is in a council in Conn.
I’d like to hear more information particularly from someone who would have attended the 1956 2-D Conclave. But Gavin (and Brian’s) information would seem to agree with things I have heard in the past.
