—————–
“…There is no nation on earth powerful enough to accomplish our overthrow. … Our destruction, should it come at all, will be from another quarter. From the inattention of the people to the concerns of their government, from their carelessness and negligence, I must confess that I do apprehend some danger. I fear that they may place too implicit a confidence in their public servants, and fail properly to scrutinize their conduct; that in this way they may be made the dupes of designing men, and become the instruments of their own undoing.” – Daniel Webster, June 1, 1837

  1. Hi Blog readers-
I suspect these slides were made by a gentleman (I believe his name was Herb Haven…now deceased) from Canton, NY. I believe he owned a shoe store (and also performed shoe repair). During his time in Scouting, he made a number of hand crafted leather pieces for the local council (St. Lawrence) and Scout camp (Camp Vigor). I’m not 100% sure but perhaps I can confirm with some local Scouters who would know.
    Best wishes-
    Ray

  2. Good day. I have been researching all of my hoards and found this on google. I have 5 of these that were obtained in the early 70’s as a boyscout. I am from Ogdensburg and was in troop 7 from St. Mary’s parish.

  3. The comment that I left was not complete in its details. I have 5 patches that were distributed durring OA meetings. They were handed out in the early 70’s.. Like I stated, I am from Ogdensburg and Canton is 8 miles from there. We camped at Camp Vigor which is privately owned now. All of the cabins have been dismanteled and the land is all back to natural state now. I have lots of fond memories of camping as a child and miss it. If any one is interested I would sell some of the patches.
