Headed up to the Buffalo Area this past weekend for the Western New York Traders Association TOR. This was the 28th and the guys from Western NY did their usual fine job. There were approximately 25 tables although a couple of folk were only there for Friday night and were heading to Cleavland on Saturday.
Picked up a couple of new issues and filled in a number of Area 2-E and other Conclave needs too.
Heard a few things I thought I would pass along.
- Ashokwahta Lodge #339 was not happy with how there recent new flap turned out. If you look at the flap, you can see the point is off-center to the right. They expect to reorder from a new manufacturer to correct this shortly. If they do reorder, it will likely create a variety.
- Ho-De-No-Sau-Nee Lodge #159 had reordered some additional orange bordered trader sets form the 2009 NOAC. When we examined the brick and compared it to existing issues, there were no color differences, there are twill direction varieties for both the flap and the chevron.
- Merger rumors were going around concerning some combination of Lodges 159, 165 and 339 with their respective councils. The most common was Allegheny Highlands (Lodge #165) would be split up with the PA portion of the council being absorbed by an adjacent council and the the NY counties going to either 159 or 339.
- There was also a rumor that there could be a merger of 159, the NY counties of 165 and Lodge 339. Although this was not as common.
- There was also some idle talk that the grand plan from National was that all of NY State would eventually become 5 Councils. There was no timetable (or corroboration) fo9r this.
Thanks to Dirk, Paul, Marty, Mike, Dave Z and all of the others for putting on the TOR and sharing stories and fellowship at the event. Good to see and trade with a number of people who don’t make it downstate to the NYC centric TOR’s.

Dear Bill,
I’ve been away, but I am not surprised at the 159, 165, 339 rumor mill. I also heard the ultimate goal of 8 councils in NY. In fact, I would not be surprised that, should 339 merge, part of its territory goes toward Rochester, especially Livingston County. The only way that might be prevented is if a field office is retained in Batavia.
Dear Bill,
A followup:
Any discussion on 30? If 165 might merge to follow state lines, then might 30? It only came from a merger with a PA lodge as a PA council was unwilling to merge with it.
Brother Andrew,
I did not hear anything about Lodge #30, that’s not to say something won’t happen there too.
This is a rough image of what new york will look like eventually with the red setion being split into a rochester side and a syracuse side.
